Holter Museum of Art, E.L Weigand Creativity Center
The Holter Museum of Art partnered with CWG to transform the Sherman Gallery into a versatile, multi-purpose venue that not only serves as an art gallery but also functions as a hub for after-school maker programs and adult art classes. Our design incorporates a variety of innovative interior elements that enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
A striking feature of the space is the unique carpet, which adds a vibrant splash of color and texture, and the paint drip ceiling, an artistic nod to the creative process, adding a playful and dynamic element to the environment, inspiring creativity and engagement.
To ensure optimal acoustics during art classes and public functions, acoustic panels were installed that effectively manage sound, creating a comfortable auditory experience for all users. The design also includes flexible seating arrangements that can be easily reconfigured to accommodate different types of events, from intimate workshops to larger gatherings.
The layout features a raised platform stage for performances, enhancing the versatility of the space. Additionally, the previously covered windows were reopened, allowing natural light to flood the area and providing breathtaking views of downtown Helena. This connection to the outside world not only brightens the interior but also fosters a sense of community and openness.
This innovative planning approach secured a generous grant from the E.L. Weigand Creativity Center, effectively repositioning the museum as a dynamic center for education and the arts. The outcome is a vibrant community resource that nurtures creativity and strengthens connections within the Helena community, making it a true hub for artistic expression and collaboration.
